Summer is Here

I don't need to tell all of you that is has been hot and miserable the past four days.  Our weather station showed highs of 99 on Friday, Saturday and Monday.  Sunday was a weird day as it was 94 degrees at 9:30 in the morning until the clouds moved in and cooled everything down into the 80's.  Those are scary temperatures with aerified greens, but all of the greens held up really well.  Our team was here into the evening every day cooling down the grass.  We haven't aerified the larger practice green yet because it was too hot at the end of last week to aerify it.  It will be completed today.  The short game practice area on #16 South will also re-open today.

This week we will finish adding sand to the South Course greens bunkers.  As of this morning, 1-10 are complete, and we are going to finish the back 9 before the holiday.  Our crew has added about 100 tons of bunker sand to the greens bunkers.  All of the South fairway bunkers have been tilled and the sand re-distributed.  We are also moving back to a longer tine on the rake to help keep them less compact.

The North Course received it's last application of fertilizer yesterday.  We fertilized the entire course to keep things growing into our final countdown to construction.

We are less than 3 weeks away from the start of our construction project!  Behind the scenes everything is in motion lining up equipment and planning everything out.  We will start staging equipment and irrigation materials next Wednesday next to the course restroom on #11 North.  This area will be dried out in order for trucks to unload materials there.  We are going to start some irrigation work next week on #9, but it shouldn't impact play.  We will be posting pictures on the blog once construction begins highlighting our progress.
