North Aerification

So, it's been a month since we've updated the blog.  The last month was slammed for us with the MGA Member/Guest, Memorial Day, the MGA Club Championship and the WGA Member/Guest.  In addition, I selfishly snuck away for a little vacation time with my family before construction starts.  So, we're back in it now and moving forward on aerification and construction.

I've had several members ask me why we have to aerifiy the North greens if we're closing the golf course.  Aerification is such an important process that skipping it could jeopardize the greens even if we are closed.  The North doesn't close completely until August 5th, and it should be way too hot to aerify at that point. This aerification process is extremely minimal disturbance and shouldn't have a big impact on conditions this weekend.

Next week we will be closing the South Course for aerification.  We will be doing a slightly more aggressive aerification on the South to get the greens as healthy as possible before the North closes (and they have to absorb all of the extra play).  While closed, we are going to add sand where needed to all greens bunkers and till the fairway bunkers.  They tend to be more on the wet side during the summer due to the extra watering of the golf course so this should help dry them out.  We are also going to be fixing some broken cart paths such as the one that broke going to #17 tee.  We couldn't repair it until we had a few days in a row of being closed because there was no alternative route around that path.

As for the North construction, we are blazing forward on the project.  We will start some of the work right after 4th of July week.  At that point we will start spraying the first set of fairways to kill them prior to construction.  We will also start setting up staging areas near the restroom on #11 for delivery of our materials and drying some areas up to move heavy equipment through the golf course.  The contractor will also start adding a new irrigation main line on #9 North that week.  The hole will remain open while they are installing the new line.  I'll continue to update on the plans and progress of this project as we move forward, but we're really excited about all of the improvements coming!

Thanks for all of your support and enjoy the perfect weather the next few weeks.
