South Fairway Aerification This Week

This week is our scheduled aerification of the South fairways.  We will only be working on one hole at a time and will keep that hole closed to prevent disturbance to member play.  During this process, we will aerify, verticut and fertilize the fairways.  Once recovered, they will be a better playing surface, and this process will ensure the long term health of the fairways.

The first step of the process is to aerify the fairway removing a core of soil and excess turf that needs to be removed.  Aerification allows better water and air penetration to the roots, alleviates compaction and removes excess plant material.

The second step is verticutting the fairways.  A verticutter is a mower that cuts vertical grooves in the turf much like a saw blade.  This process removes excess material from the fairways and helps stand the turf up.

We then run a sweeper which cleans all of the debris.  After the debris is removed, we will mow the fairway and hand blow any piles.  We then re-open the hole to play and move to the next hole.
