The South overseed and greens aerification is complete. While closed, we are deep aerifying fairways to prepare the for the rain (that I am praying we will get this winter) to help the water penetrate as much as possible. We are also using special equipment and adding sand to the fairways on 2 & 14 since those two fairways are extremely slow to dry out after a rain. We are also completing tree trimming, sodding and lake projects as well while we are closed. The South will open one week from today.
Next week we will get back to work on the North now that the work on the South is winding down. Last week we minimized any work on the North to concentrate our efforts on the South (it is also difficult to have the crew working on the North when it is the only open course). We will be touching up the overseed on any spot that isn't completely filled in. We are starting with fairways and green surrounds, then we will work on roughs. We are going to fertilize the golf course on Monday (while the course is closed) which will stimulate a lot of new growth on the overseed and help improve the density of the turf. We are also going to have a crew sodding cartpath edges, and we will be lowering our cuts on fairways and roughs. By lowering the cuts, the fairways will look much more uniform and it will help the ryegrass density. On October 29th, our contractor will start pouring the concrete turn out areas next to the tee boxes as previously discussed.
Thank you for your patience during this process. The courses will continue to get better and better each week as the new seed develops into full plants. We also have many improvement projects slated for the remainder of this year and even more on the agenda for next year.
