This week we are spiking and topdressing greens. Spiking uses small knives to cut slices into the greens to help water penetrate. We have not aerified greens since February and we are having issues with water penetration. Spiking gives us the ability to solve the problem without causing disruption to playing conditions. We will also be lightly topdressing greens on Wednesday and Thursday of this week to help keep the greens smooth and fast.

This is the machine we use to spike the greens. |

This is a close-up view of the small holes left behind after the process. These holes are nearly impossible to see after a couple of days.

Also this week, we are spraying the North fairways with a wetting agent that will help balance wet and dry areas. You may also notice Frank and his team identifying areas on the North fairways for new sod. After the MGA Club Championship and the WGA Member/Guest, we are going to lay about 50,000 square feet of sod. We are trying to be proactive in getting bermuda established in areas where we have had no grass in the summers.
