As most of you know, this is the third year that we have stopped overseeding the South fairways. Although the summer conditions are far superior from not overseeding, we do have issues in the winter on the dormant Bermuda turf. The first issue is a disease called brown patch. These are the rings that you see in some areas of the fairways after the rain. We applied a fungicide that should clear those up in the next ten days. We also have earthworm castings (the very small dirt piles scattered throughout the fairways). Although earthworms are extremely beneficial to the soil, we do treat these at times when they cause bad playing conditions. We have treated holes 2,6 & 14 for these and those holes are now much improved. We have a few areas that have stayed wet as well this year from the rains. We are working on drainage projects to help improve these areas. We will also initiate an aggressive aerification and sand program next Spring and Summer that will make future Winter conditions much better.
All in all, both courses are playing really well right now and the greens are getting great positive feedback. Get out during the holiday season and enjoy the courses!
