The warm temperatures and lack of rain have revealed that our irrigation system is not functioning properly.  There are areas receiving too much or not enough water and the bunkers are occasionally being washed out.
Over the last few months, we have been working with irrigation consultants to evaluate our system and in the next few weeks we will begin the repairs.  We will be installing new pressure regulator valves throughout the course to increase our flow and allow for improved distribution. Once the work is completed, we will re-evaluate the efficiency and determine if any additional work needs to be done.
On another note, many questions have been circulating throughout the membership and homeowners regarding the conversion to naturalized areas bordering the course.  One of the speculations being circulated is that ClubCorp is trying to save money by no longer mowing and/or irrigating these areas.  The truth to the matter is that we are trying to follow recommendations affiliated with the master plan, which was developed a few years ago, to enhance the esthetics of the golf course.  Although it may look unsightly at first due to lack of uniformity and issues with weeds, the goal is to introduce wildflowers throughout these naturalized areas.
A variety of different seed types will be tested in the coming weeks to determine what will work best for our location. Irrigation will continue to run in these areas so they will not be a fire hazard.  We will also mow a small border along the walls/fences beginning next week to keep the Bermudagrass from encroaching into the homes.  Also, weekly scouting will be conducted to eradicate weeds and monitor for any wildlife issues.
Please give these areas an opportunity to mature before making an opinion on weather or not they enhance the course.
