Weekly Updates

Back in 2010 we moved greens aerification from late March to February.  The thought was that February was our least busy month, and the month that we get the most rain (which is great for aerified greens).  That being said, we had a Presidents Day weekend with 80 degree temperatures, and one course with aerified greens- I just can't outsmart Mother Nature... We have a pretty good storm system moving in this week that will flush our aerified greens and move the sand into the turf.  We are expecting about an inch of rain in this system.  As always, we will use the blog to keep you updated on course closures due to weather.  We are aerfying the South greens, tees and roughs next week.

Weather permitting, we have some great improvements in progress this week.  We plan to complete the trimming process on the riparian areas on 1 & 18 North this week, and will finish off these areas with mulch to make them look cleaner.  The goal of the riparian area trimming is to remove all of the "weedy" trees and shrubs that have taken over through the years and make the large oak trees the prominent feature along the creeks.  We have completed removal of the non-desirable trees, and now we are going to lightly prune up the canopies on the oaks.  Weather permitting, we will also remove the large logs from the crossing on #1 tee tomorrow since we can't work in that area when we are open to play.

We are also trimming and cleaning all of the landscape around the water feature in front of the clubhouse.  Once the landscape is completely cleaned, we are going to drain the entire water feature, dredge out the silt and leaf debris, power wash all of the rocks, and clean out the filtration system.  This is a huge project that should result in cleaner conditions and less algae.

We are also planting trees today the mulch area on #4 North.  We are adding oak trees to this area to help finish off the project, and bring the oak riparian area more into the golf course.  This is another project as part of the 2013 master plan improvements.
