We are in the final days of preparing the North Course for overseed and aerification. All of the irrigation has been shut down and we are finishing preparing the tees, approaches and collars for seed. We need to stop the bermuda turf from growing now so that it doesn't choke out the new seed next week.
The North and range will close on Monday. Here is a breakdown of what our crew will accomplish while closed.
- The North will be seeded with 40,000 pounds of perennial ryegrass seed
- We will use 100 tons of sand on the greens for aerification and 400 tons of sand/mulch on top of the seed
- We will be replacing all irrigation heads on the North
- We will fertilize the new seed with 10 tons of fertilizer
- We will rototill, move sand and fix drainage in every bunker on the North
- We will edge greens and remove any bermuda that is encroaching onto the green
It will be a busy couple of weeks for us, but by the time we re-open the North we will already be mowing the new turf. It will be critical to our success to remain cartpaths only for 4 weeks after overseed. This allows the new grass to get stronger before it has to handle heavy cart traffic.
